The European External Action Service is the administration created in 2011 to deal with the European Union External Relations.
This administration present the peculiarity of being in charge of diplomatic activities and at the same time of security and defence activities.
No country in the world follows this model.
The combination of these two activities creates numerous questions and misundersatnding among European partners. European citizen, for their part, are not even aware of the existence of this administration.

European Defence is currently run essentially between the Council, Commission, the EEAS supported by EDA. It made considerable progress lately, due to a large extent to the tight coordination between the lines of work involved, as ensured by the High-Representative/Vice-President Mogherini and Vice-President Katainen. A joined up approach to European foreign and defence policy is necessary at political level. When it comes to executing these policies, 2 factors come into play: defence remains a sovereign national prerogative, and, respectively, European Defence is a policy area designed to pursue a multitude of goals, among which participating in a coherent manner to the European external action is but one of a diversified toolbox available to that end.
